HQ Theatres named as operator for Guildford's exciting new venue

HQ Theatres Limited will operate Guildford's exciting new entertainment venue on behalf of Guildford Borough Council.

The Council recently completed a comprehensive evaluation process to select the operator for the new venue, which is set to open in autumn 2011.

Jim Miles, Strategic Director at Guildford Borough Council, says: "By using a commercial operator partner, we will ensure that a diverse entertainment programme will make the best and most cost-effective use of everything our new venue has to offer. Following a competitive tender and scoring process, we selected HQ Theatres to run the venue for us when it opens next year. This new partnership agreement is the latest stage of this important development for Guildford."

Nick Thomas, Chairman of Qdos Entertainment, said: "We are proud to add the new entertainment venue in Guildford to the growing HQ Theatres family. Guildford Borough Council has taken a bold and important step in creating this new, state-of-the art venue. We are eagerly looking forward to working with people and organisations from Guildford and the surrounding area, as well as leading producers, promoters and companies, to create a venue which will present the top music, comedy and entertainment programme of national and international standard, as well as being a focus for local talent, involvement and participation.

"At the same time, we are very excited to have the opportunity to develop the new entertainment venue as a centre for conferences, celebrations, banqueting and special events. The venue is designed with style, imagination, and flair, and we are in no doubt that Guildford will quickly take it to its heart."

Cllr Nigel Manning, Lead Councillor for Procurement and Projects, says: "The new venue is a significant investment by the Council to support the local economy and future arts and entertainment opportunities in the area. It will also enhance Guildford’s role as a regional centre, providing great facilities for residents, visitors and businesses."

Cllr Jen Powell, Lead Councillor for Culture and Heritage, says: "HQ Theatres is set to provide a programme of high quality entertainment, showcasing emerging talent and established names. Visitors will be able to enjoy comedy performances, all types of music and family shows. There will also be facilities for trade fairs and a wide range of community activities."

The new venue will include a 1,000 seat/1,700 standing auditorium, a versatile studio space, two conference and five seminar rooms, a café, bars and light and airy foyer spaces. For more information on the development, visit www.guildford.gov.uk/entertainmentvenue
